I could not agree more. I am so fed up of regulators and professional standards boards using phrases such as "lack of professional skepticism" ... it is not a lack of professional skepticism when an auditor does not source and check bank statements (as happened in the case of Wirecard) - it is weaponized incompetence and wiflul negligence.
